Man, oh, man, we almost scooped the world yesterday! We managed to pick up nice wins by backing teams like Southern Utah, K-State, Illinois, Marquette, Morehead State, St. Bonaventure, Drake, North Carolina, and VCU enroot to a 9-6 overall record on the day, but it was nearly an even better day, as a couple of games ended in bad beats.

We had UCLA, who led by double digits in the second half before seeing USC hit a parking lot three at the buzzer to ruin our outright money line underdog play on the Bruins. We also had Wofford, who lost at the buzzer by just a point to Mercer. 9-6 was sweet, but 11-4 would have been a monster day on the college hoops hardwood. We will try and keep our hot streak alive today as we head back to the madness in search of more value!

Point Spread Parlay

Not all parlays are the same. In this first section, we are going to focus on point spread parlays. A point spread parlay is a parlay bet where all of the games bet are point spreads, and you will have to lay a little juice on each bet. A standard 3-team point spread parlay will payout 6-1, a 4-teamer pays out 11-1, and a 10-teamer pays out a whopping 720-1! As you can see, the payouts can get really big, really fast, on point spread parlays!

Drake Bulldogs (+7.5) at Loyola Chicago Ramblers

My favorite game of the day comes to us from the Missouri Valley Conference tournament finals, where the Drake Bulldogs square off against the Loyola Chicago Ramblers with a trip to the NCAA tournament on the line. I would think that both teams are going to get into the Big Dance at this point, as they are a combined 48-7 on the season, but I can tell you that neither team wants to leave their fate to the Selection Committee tonight. The Bulldogs and the Ramblers have been the class of the MVC all season long, and they split their season series when Drake hosted Loyola Chicago for a pair of games in February.

Loyola Chicago is the better team in this game. The Ramblers have played quality basketball all season long, and they have won sixteen of their last seventeen games. But I am a bit surprised to see the books giving us so many points to back a Drake team that has also been great this season. This feels a lot like the last time these two teams played when the game was a one-possession contest throughout and went into overtime. I think Loyola Chicago probably wins the game, but Drake covers the spread and cashes our ticket.

Michigan Wolverines at Michigan State Spartans (+9)

There is an awful lot riding on this game tonight for Tom Izzo’s Spartans. If they win this game over a top-5 ranked Michigan team, they are locks to be dancing in March, no matter what happens in the Big 10 Conference tournament. If they lose tonight at home, they will have hit the end of the regular season with a very mediocre 14-12 overall record and having lost three of their last four games, which does not bode well for their NCAA tournament at-large bid dreams. These teams played just two nights ago in Ann Arbor, and the Wolverines dominated throughout and won the game 69-50.

Spartan’s fans are hoping that the change of venue will be enough to swing the tide towards Michigan State, and when you look at how they have played at home this season, it just might. The Spartans are 11-3 at home this season with top-100 wins over Notre Dame, Rutgers, Penn State, Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio State, and Indiana. They have only lost once at home since early January, and that came to a very good Iowa Hawkeyes team. Will Sparty be able to take care of business and pull off the upset tonight at home? Well, to be honest, I doubt it. But in order to not cover this line, they have to lose by double digits, and I just don’t see that happening either. I am taking the home dog and the points in this one.

Texas Longhorns (-7) at TCU Horned Frogs

Basically, every team in the country plays better at home than they do on the road. But interestingly enough, the hasn’t been the case for this Texas Longhorns team, as they have actually been quite a bit better on the road this year. Texas has an 8-2 record in neutral site or true roads games with wins over North Carolina, Indiana, Davidson, Kansas, West Virginia, and Oklahoma. Shaka Smart’s Longhorns have been road warriors this year, and they aren’t afraid to play any team, anywhere.

TCU is a much more typical team in that they do most of their winning at home. The Horned Frogs haven’t done a lot of winning this year, though, no matter where the game is being played. TCU has lost ten of thirteen, and two of those three wins came over an Iowa State team that is 0-18 in Big 12 play, so I am not sure those even count as wins. TCU has lost by at least eight points at home to Kansas State, West Virginia, Baylor, Kansas, and Providence. We will sweat this line out tonight, but I think Texas wins and sneaks in the cover.

Money Line Magic

This next type of parlay we are going to look at is an all money line parlay. With these types of bets, you don’t care about points spreads, it is just who wins or loses the games that matter. Want to load up on a bunch of favorites and get paid when they all win? Do you smell a couple of big upsets? Parlay those together on a money line parlay, and you can get paid big!

East Tennessee State Buccaneers at UNC Greensboro Spartans (-148)

The SOCON is a one-bid league this season, so despite UNC Greensboro taking the regular season league title, if the Spartans don’t win the conference tournament, they won’t be playing in the NCAA tournament. These teams split their regular season series, with the Spartans closing out the regular season with an overtime victory on the Buccaneers home floor. I expect another hard-fought game and wouldn’t want to lay any points, but I do feel that Greensboro is going to win this game. East Tennessee State sputtered to the finish line in the regular season, losing five of their last six games, and I see their season coming to an end tonight at the hand’s of the Spartans.

LA-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at Georgia State Panthers (-200)

The Georgia State Panthers caught a break when Texas State got bounced from the Sun Belt Conference tournament last night by Appalachian State, leaving the Panthers as the favorite to win it all. That being said, Georgia State should have their hands full tonight with the Ragin’ Cajuns, as this is a fairly evenly matched game. These teams have yet to play this year, so it is hard to tell just what to expect in this game. I always want to be on the side that has momentum in March, and after seeing Georgia State finish the regular season on a six-game winning streak and seeing Lafayette lose four of their last seven, I am taking the Panthers in a tight one.

Penn State Nittany Lions at Maryland Terrapins (-245)

I think Maryland is going to get into the NCAA tournament this year. But a bad home loss to Penn State would, at minimum, cost them a line or two in the seeding, and if the Terps can’t win a game in the Big 10 tournament either, they could end up missing out on the madness altogether. Maryland saw their five-game winning streak snapped in their last game when they lost to Michigan State, and Maryland badly needs to win this game tonight at home against a struggling Penn State team.

Penn State has just one road win all season long in league play, and that one came over cellar-dweller Nebraska. The Nittany Lions have embraced the spoiler role as of late, as they beat Minnesota in their last game, likely ending the Gophers shot at an at-large bid. Penn State beat Maryland in Happy Valley earlier this year, and I think Maryland gets their revenge tonight in a must-win game.

Elon Phoenix at James Madison Dukes (-190)

James Madison was rolling to the regular season league title in the Colonial this year before hitting a road bump in the final game of the year, losing to Drexel. The Dukes had to share the regular season title with Northeastern with the unlikely loss and they will have to get over that disappointment quickly if they want to play in the NCAA tournament. James Madison swept Elon in the regular season, winning by an average of fifteen points per game in a home and home series. It is always very hard to beat a team three times in one season, but I think James Madison will do just that and that the Dukes win this game.

Get Rich Or Die Trying

In this final section, we are going to go for the jumbo payouts! These are your lottery ticket types of plays that aren’t going to come in all that often but pay off big time when they do. A wise man once said, if you don’t swing hard, you never hit any home runs. Well, in this section, we swing for the fences!

Mercer Bears (-2) at VMI Keydets

Mercer shocked a lot of people, me included, when they knocked off Wofford last night, and the 7th seeded Bears will look to continue their run as they play for a trip to the SOCON tournament finals today against VMI. Mercer is heating up at just the right time with seven wins in their last ten games, including a win over VMI. VMI has been up and down all season long and barely finished above .500 in the regular season. If you take away all of their wins against D2 teams, this Keydets team has a losing overall record. VMI has done nearly all of their winning at home, with eleven of their twelve wins coming in Lexington, and I don’t like them in this game against a red-hot Bears team. Does the slipper fit for Mercer? We are about to find out!

Oregon Ducks at Oregon State Beavers (+5.5)

Oregon State has been sneaky decent in the PAC-12 this season. While the PAC-12 has been all over the place and down overall from their usual level of play, it’s shocking that a team with a winning record in a power conference is getting absolutely zero love in the media. The Beavers are 10-9 in league play, including wins over Oregon, Utah, Stanford, USC, and Arizona State. Oregon State started their season out slow with three losses in their first five games, but since then, the Beavers are a very respectable 12-8 with an SOS of 74th. I’m not saying that Oregon State should get into the NCAA tournament, I’m just saying that it’s weird that they aren’t even getting a look.

Oregon is playing their best basketball of the season right now, and a win over their archrival Beavers tonight will earn them the outright PAC-12 regular season title. Oregon has been shaky on the road this season with road losses to Colorado and USC and single-digit victories over Stanford, Arizona, Utah, and Washington. The Ducks love to win close on the road, and that is what is going to happen in this game. Oregon wins the game, but Oregon State competes, covers the spread, and gets us paid.

UMKC Kangaroos (+5.5) at North Dakota State Bison

UMKC was playing well in the second half of the conference season as they strung together a six-game winning streak before dropping the final two games of the regular season, with both games coming on the road against conference kingpin South Dakota State. They split with North Dakota State this year, with an average margin of victory of just three points. I expect another very tightly contested game between these two teams, and North Dakota State needs to be on upset alert as they went just 3-4 down the stretch in the regular season. This game has one possession written all over it, take the points.

Texas Tech Red Raiders at Baylor Bears (-8)

I feel like an absolute square laying this many points against a team that is as talented as Texas Tech, but I am going to do it anyway. Baylor has just been too consistently good to not want to back them at home, laying only single digits. Baylor has double-digit home wins over Oklahoma State, Auburn, Kansas State, and Oklahoma in Big 12 play, and that is what I see happening again tonight. Texas Tech has as much talent as any team in the nation, but they have just one road win in conference play since early January, and that came against an awful K-State team. The Red Raiders very rarely get blown out, but I think Baylor is going to be too much for Chris Beard’s boys tonight in Waco.

App State Mountaineers at Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (-4)

When is the last time you had action on the Chanticleers? Well, come get you some today, as we are taking Coastal Carolina! This game is a straight fade of App State as I expect a letdown game after the Mountaineers picked up a big upset last night over Texas State. This will be the 3rd game in three nights for the Mountaineers, and with last night’s game going into overtime, they are going to have tired legs.

Coastal Carolina played last night too, but they played against a bad Troy team that they have beaten an absurd five times this season, and they didn’t exert much energy to get the job done. This is one of those spots that almost isn’t fair as the Mountaineers are in an impossibly tough position, and I don’t think they are going to be able to overcome all of those obstacles. I see App State coming out flat and fading late as Coastal Carolina wins and advances to the Sun Belt Conference tournament finals. Go Chants!

Drexel Dragons at Charleston Cougars (+4.5)

Our last bet of the day comes to us from the Colonial Athletic Association Conference tournament in a game between three-seeded Charleston and sixth-seeded Drexel. Charleston swept Drexel in the regular season, hosting the Dragons for a pair of games and beating them in two tightly contested affairs. The Cougars won seven of ten to close out the regular season, and they are hoping that they can make it three straight wins over the Dragons in this one.

The schedule maker must hate Drexel as they have played eight of their last ten games on the road, and not shockingly, the results have elicited a collective, meh. The Dragons went 5-5 over that stretch of games, and in another tough spot tonight, I feel that they are being highly overvalued. This is a coin flip game that could go either way and in a spot like that, I am always happy to snatch up the points and hope the variance breaks our way.
