With the ESL Pro League spectacle coming to a close, IEM XV New York is the next big event on CSGO’s competitive calendar. ESL’s been rather busy ever since the pandemic started, but I guess it’s nice to see an event organizer doing everything they can to keep the pro scene afloat. And it’s all for a good cause… the scene had to part ways with LAN events and switch to online play, and ESL has been making the transition as smooth as possible. So yeah, kudos to ESL for keeping the dream alive!
But, we’re not here to talk about how ESL is keeping the esports scene alive… we’re here to talk about betting on CSGO online. Believe it or not, CSGO betting would be in serious danger if it wasn’t for the likes of DreamHack, ESL, and BLAST stepping up their game with online events. IEM XV New York betting is just another big event that’s bound to keep enthusiasts at the edges of their seats.
So, without further ado, let’s check out the main facts on Intel Extreme Masters XV New York before digging deeper into our betting preview. No worries, we’ll go the extra length today, not just analyzing the event(s) itself but sweet betting opportunities and key teams too!

How Many Events Are There?
IEM XV New York consists of three regional events. As the name suggests, though, the event was supposed to be held in New York. Instead, we’re going to enjoy European, American, and CIS events spanning from October 6th all the way to October 25th when the CIS event is set to end.
IEM XV New York Prize Pool
There’s a total of $250,000 on the line here, spread across all three events. The prize pool hasn’t been spread all that equally, though. The European event, despite the fact it’s the smallest one (features the smallest number of teams), it features the biggest prize pool.
Here are the numbers:
- IEM XV NY EU Prize Pool – $140,000
- IEM XV NY NA Prize Pool – $60,000
- IEM XV NY CIS Prize Pool – $50,000
I have to say that I’m a wee bit surprised at the prize pool distribution between the events. Typically, EU events pack the biggest number of teams (and the highest quality too) so it’s logical they have the biggest prize pool. However, this time around, there are only eight teams on the EU event, yet it has more prize money than the other two (bigger) events combined. It’s a weird move by ESL, but it doesn’t have any direct influence on our IEM XV New York betting campaign, so let’s leave it at that.
Participating Teams | Group Stage Overview
Moving on with our Intel Extreme Masters XV New York betting preview, here’s a quick look at the groups of all three events!

Special Betting on Intel Extreme Masters XV New York
The demand for CSGO betting options is massive, so it’s not surprising to see bookies feature a plethora of special bets. Match-winners are still the most popular choice for many, but entertaining specials are enjoying a ton of popularity too. Not only are they entertaining, but often yield excellent value which is something experts can’t live without!
Outright Betting on IEM XV New York
The American event is anyone’s guess… Three teams are in what looks like the epitome of a dead race. I’m referring to Team Liquid, FURIA, and Evil Geniuses… It’s anyone’s guess, really! The same goes for the European event that has G2, Vitality, and BIG in a dead race too, with the likes of Fnatic and Faze Clan wanting their own piece of the cake too. The CIS event is pretty much straightforward, although NaVi has a history of struggle within their own region… so it might be a sticky situation after all.
However, at the time of writing (cca 48 hours before the first group stage matches), not a single major bookie offers outright betting on IEM XV New York. What could be the reason? Well, probably the chaotic nature of online events. But, previous events had outrights… Yeah, that’s true… but perhaps bookies have had enough this time and aren’t looking to bring them back until the IEM Global Challenge LAN event scheduled for December.
IEM XV New York Team Storylines
Our IEM XV New York betting preview is far from over! We’re just getting started, and the next section is what most of you came here for – team storylines! Let’s take off with key European teams before moving onto the remaining two regions!
Key European Teams
What a fantastic end to the European ESL Pro League Season 12 event! NaVi and Astralis put up quite the show; it was one of the best matches I’ve seen this year. With it, Astralis are back in business, finally looking like the good old Astralis we all know and love. But, The Great Danes won’t be competing on IEM XV New York, which leaves four potent teams with equal shots at the title. They are as follows:
KennyS and the Balkan boys are in group A with Vitality, Fnatic, and Complexity. It’s a tough group, on paper much tougher than group B, but thanks to some unplanned circumstances, G2 could find their way through to the playoffs. You see, Complexity still hasn’t announced their fifth man, which could be huge for nexa, huNter, and the boys.
Obviously, they will still need to step their game up if they want to beat the likes of Vitality and Fnatic. Neither of the two sides will give up easily, meaning we’ll be in for a few excellent matches. What could decide this group? Well, as far as your IEM XV New York betting campaign goes, you should know that G2 is the likeliest candidate for the top spot. Vitality is there too, but they’ve had too many ups and downs this year to be a proper pick.
For a short period of time, BIG was considered as the best team in the world. They were a massive surprise, showing off incredible resilience, tenacity, and most importantly, consistency. For those of you who’ve been living under a rock for the last few months or so, BIG won six events in 2020, four of which belong to the very top of the competitive CSGO.
Even though their consistency took a hit, they’re still dangerous. The likes of syrsoN and TabseN can start to shine in any given round… and once they do, they’re packing a mighty punch. XANTARES is not to be taken for granted either… although he hasn’t been playing at its best lately.
However, BIG is not the only major contestant alongside G2 and Heroic. Vitality will have their shot too… but considering their poor run of form in recent months, I reckoned we should point Heroic out instead of them. After all, if you’re interested in IEM XV New York betting, you’ll want to bet on the best Danish team at the moment!
Nope, I’m not lying guys! Heroic really is the best Danish team at the moment. Better yet, they’re not just the best Danish team, they’re the best European team. Heck, they’re the best team in the world at the moment, according to HLTV’s newest CSGO world ranking.
How is that possible? Isn’t Heroic like a tier-B side with no real titles to their tale? Well, that might’ve been the case a couple of months ago. However, now that the world is engulfed in chaotic online gameplay, Heroic stepped up to the occasion and have established themselves as one of the most frightening teams to play against.
This entire Heroic starting roster is doing amazing. They’ve worked a lot on their strats, and it shows… it shows a lot! They’ve broadened their map pool too, which is probably the thing that separates the old Heroic from the new one. All in all, Heroic is in group B with Faze, BIG, and OG… and from the looks of things, they’ll be aiming for the top spot!
Key American Teams
Evil Geniuses, FURIA, and Team Liquid are in a wicked three-way dead race. They’re ruling over the region with iron fists, with Gen.G being the only team in the last few months who managed to usurp the throne, at least for a single event. Gen.G is not competing on the event, which leaves us with the following trio:
Team Liquid is going up and down, back and forth. Many people though Grim would be the man to make Team Liquid great again (pun intended), but judging by all we’ve seen on the recently finished ESL Pro League, there’s still a lot of work to be done on Liquid’s end. They need to get their priorities straight, otherwise they’ll let FURIA and Evil Geniuses take control of the region.
As far as group B goes, Liquid shouldn’t have too many issues. They’ll have a chance at revenge against 100 Thieves, which ought to be a fine match. If you’re going to bet on IEM XV New York, Liquid vs. 100 Thieves is definitely going to be a high-value matchup. For all you value hunters reading this, CSGO specials on this particular contest are going to be through the roof!
FURIA is back! I repeat, FURIA is back! After a short EG domination, the mighty Brazilians are back in business with the ESL Pro League title. They stomped over 100 Thieves 3:0 in the grand finals and asserted their dominance in the best possible way.
The Brazilians are in group A where their biggest opponents will be EG and Triumph. The likes of Rebirth, NEW, and ImPerium shouldn’t really cause major issues to a team as consistent as FURIA. However, the NA region sports a dynamic playoff bracket, which means both FURIA and EG will do everything they can to win the group. Why is that? Well, the group winner goes straight through to the semifinals, and that’s a big luxury in compact events such as this one.
So yeah, if you’re looking for more high-value bets, EG vs. FURIA ought to be right up your alley. It’s too early for concrete picks, though our esports picks section will have everything prepared for you once we see how these teams play in their first group stage matches.
Last but not least, let’s say a thing or two about the team that’s still labeled as the best in the region. As the heading suggests, I’m referring to Evil Geniuses… you know, the team that had won three consecutive events and were just two wins away from the fourth one. Yep, that EG!
Brehze and CeRq are absolute monsters, I think that’s pretty obvious at this point. However, their teammates haven’t been all that bad either. Evil Geniuses took control over the region not because of in-form Brehze and CeRq, but because their entire roster stepped up for the occasion. It was a joy to watch, to say the least.
As far as our IEM XV New York betting adventure goes, betting on Evil Geniuses in the group stage seems like a no-brainer. That is, in all matches except versus FURIA. That one is going to be a real cracker, and I’m afraid we’ll need to analyze the teams more before we can give and informed decisions. That said, let’s move onto CIS sides and the FAQ section!
Key CIS Teams
Natus Vincere is definitely the most dominant CIS side ever. They’re the end all be all of the region. Heck, they are so dominant in their own region that they’re typically competing in European competitions. This time around, though, S1mple and the boys will be competing against their CIS brethren… and quite honestly, I can see only one team that somewhat of a chance to contest the title.
Team Spirit is always up there with the best CIS teams. They’re not exactly NaVi, but they’re not far either. Remember that event when NaVi got absolutely demolished in the group stage by Syman and the crew? Well, that’s the event Team Spirit took home, following an exceptional performance from start to finish. ESL One Road to Rio was the occasion, and Team Spirit stepped up for the occasion like the best of them!
We should see more of the same here as well. However, I don’t think we’ll get to see NaVi experience another group stage heartbreak. However, I do believe Team Spirit will go deep into the playoffs. From the looks of things team-wise, I wouldn’t be surprised to see NaVi square off against Spirit in the grand finals of the CIS event.
As mentioned earlier, Natus Vincere’s CIS tradition isn’t exactly top-notch. They had their ups and downs, they had awesome events, but they had absolute disasters too. ESL One Road to Rio is the perfect example of the latter. S1mple and the boys got eliminated in the group stage in what was supposed to be the event that lunges them back to the top of the CIS food chain.
Can NaVi surpass their demons and climb to the top here? Well, it all depends on how S1mple and electronic perform! If they come into this event with guns blazing on all fronts, there won’t be anyone good enough to stop this heavy NaVi machinery.
However, if they fail to transition their form to this event, and that’s something they’ve done in the past, we could witness another group stage disaster. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen… Fingers crossed we see NaVi players with utmost motivation following the grand finals heartbreak, courtesy of Astralis.

How Can I Bet on CSGO Legally?
Real money CSGO betting is the way to go! Don’t go joining various shady betting platforms focused on skin betting or other illegal activities. Join a proper online betting platform with a good reputation and plenty of esports betting coverage. But first, though, talk with your local online gambling regulators to see if esports betting is legal in your country.
Why Is IEM XV New York Made up of Regional Events?
Yep, we’re looking at three regional (read online) events here. IEM had to make a switch to online gameplay, Just like all other CSGO events since the IEM World Championship in Katowice. The reason is quite obvious – the global pandemic.
Are Online Events Too Risky for CSGO Betting?Well, there is some truth there. I mean, if there wasn’t, we’d probably have outright betting opportunities for this event. The biggest problem with online events is the unpredictability of latency. We’re living in times where good internet connections are available across the globe. However, when we’re talking about betting on a video game that relies on impeccable reflexes, even the tiniest hiccup can mean a lot… and those tiny hiccups have been happening all over the place lately.
So yeah, if you can wait till the IEM Global Challenge LAN event in December, that’s what you should do. However, if you can’t wait and you don’t really care if you’re betting on online or LAN events, then IEM XV New York betting campaign is going to be all yours!
Is Betting on CSGO a Dangerous Hobby? It’s not… Or more precisely, it doesn’t have to be! At the end of the day, it’s all up to you. If you can control yourself if you can be patient and if you don’t expect riches overnight, you should be fine. If, however, you’re thinking of using CSGO betting to make some quick cash, you’re either going to end up massively disappointed or broke AF.
So yeah, I guess betting on CSGO is as dangerous as you make it be!
